Have a Writing Project That Needs a Little Guidance?

From Writer to Author

If there's anything to be learned from my years in editorial, it's that there's no one right way to write a book. That can be very freeing, but it can also create turmoil for a writer. How can there be no right way to write but a million and a half wrong ways?

This is where a fresh set of eyes can take your project to the next level. Whether you need an analysis of how your story is flowing, a keen eye to clean up those typos, or you're looking for The Works for your initial rough draft, I can be your best resource and number one ally, a compassionate eye with a taste for quality work.

My motto:

Read obsessively;
write furiously;
edit carefully.

As an award-winning editor who has worked with both traditional and eBook publishers and over 100 authors, I know what it takes to make a good book. My dream-come-true is to spend my life helping people reach their dreams of having a manuscript they can be proud of.

Editorial Services

Proofreading

This is the most basic service I offer and focuses only on mechanics. I'll fix grammar and typos and comment on word choice if it impedes understanding. This will not include any plot suggestions, suggestions for cutting, or any developmental suggestions. However, if I find anything potentially offensive, I will point it out.

Developmental Edit

This is an edit focused on the book's big picture. I will not give you line-by-line feedback, but I will make in-line notes and comments about my reactions and questions. At the end of the draft, I will give you a reader’s report, which is a critical reading of the work. This will address acute and chronic tension (what I see is happening in the story), themes, character development, and any suggestions for improvement. For this service, I provide a free 1,000-word review so you can determine whether this is the right choice for you.

Copyediting

For a copyedit (also called a line edit), I focus on mechanics, voice, and diction. I’ll fix grammar and typos and comment on/fix word choice and structure. This will not include any major plot suggestions, suggestions for cutting, or any big developmental suggestions—unless it’s something that impedes understanding on the sentence level.
